"It felt like I was in control but that is the beauty of Supertri racing" - McQueen Challenges Hueber-Moosbrugger To Rematch

Chase McQueen has challenged Maxime Hueber-Moosbrugger to a Supertri E showdown in 2026 after the pair’s epic battle in London.
McQueen relinquished the Supertri E World Triathlon Championship powered by MyWhoosh title he won last year after a remarkable sprint finish with the Frenchman saw Hueber-Moosbrugger step up from third to first this time round.
For McQueen, there was a sense of what might have been given he led for almost the entire race until the last few meters, but he is already wanting to settle the score once and for all next year.
He said: “It felt like I was in control but that is the beauty of Supertri racing - you are in control until you aren’t in control.
“I went out really hard and that was my strategy and I bet on myself and in the end I paid for it a bit in the last round.
“I am disappointed to come second because you have high expectations for yourself but Maxime is a really good athlete. It’s not lost on me that it is tough to finish on the podium in these races and I am trying to be in the moment and appreciate these things because life goes quick.
“Maxime was on the podium with me last year and I am on there with him this year. We call it next year best two out of three and see who comes out on top.”
It was nearly an incredible double as McQueen’s partner, Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand, grabbed victory in the women’s race with the same tactics the USA star employed.
“We did talk about it but we are in different leagues,” he smiled. “I tried the strategy that she could do it and I couldn’t quite do it.
“She brings out the best in me and it is cool to be around a person who has that level and she challenges me a lot and it motivates me to try and be better.”
For Hueber-Moosbrugger it was not only the win itself but the manner of it which left him feeling proud.
He said: “I didn’t think I would be World Champion when I woke up. I am over the moon and the way I did it - to give everything until the finish line and a 500m sprint, which is what it was.
“I am so pleased and so proud to share this with Chase. He was the World Champion last year, he is a great athlete and I am happy to be on the same podium as him. It was a good day for me.
“You have to master it (Supertri E). I did it today and having a new format with no rest between each stage changed it. You have to measure your effort and I mastered it today and that’s why I could match Chase. Last year he was on another level.”
