Hayden Wilde: In Control and Poised for the Title

Hayden Wilde has been the standout athlete this season, with a near-perfect score of 44 points. Like Georgia Taylor-Brown on the women’s side, Wilde only needs a third-place finish in NEOM to secure the title. With his track record of podium finishes this season, Wilde is in a strong position heading into the final race.

Recap of Key Performances:

  • Boston: Wilde started strong, finishing second with 14 points.

  • Chicago: He continued his impressive run with a first-place finish and 15 points.

  • London: Wilde kept up his winning ways, securing another 15 points.

  • Toulouse: A rare third-place finish for Wilde added 13 points, enough to keep him at the top.

What He Needs to Do: Wilde must finish third or higher in NEOM to claim his second Supertri title. His consistency and podium performances make him the favorite, with little room for error.

Léo Bergere: The Challenger with a Chance

Léo Bergere sits on 39 points, just five points behind Wilde, and remains Wilde's most likely challenger. For Bergere to win the title, he needs to finish first in NEOM while hoping Wilde places fourth or lower. Given Wilde’s form, this is a challenging scenario, but Bergere has shown he can go toe-to-toe with the best.

Recap of Key Performances:

  • Boston: Didn't race

  • Chicago: A strong peformance saw him take second place

  • London: Third place in London, taking home 13 points.

  • Toulouse: Fourth place. Though he finished outside the podium, his strong performances throughout the season have him within striking distance.

What He Needs to Do: Bergere must win in NEOM and hope Wilde finishes fourth or lower. Bergere’s season has been marked by consistency, but he’ll need a top performance and some luck in NEOM to take the title.

Tim Hellwig: A Long Shot with Potential

Tim Hellwig’s title hopes are slim but still possible. Sitting on 37 points, he needs to win the race in NEOM and have Wilde finish fifth or lower, while also needing Bergere to place third or lower. Hellwig has had an up-and-down season, missing out on a podium in London, but his strong result in Toulouse keeps him in contention.

Recap of Key Performances:

  • Boston: Hellwig started his season well with a fourth-place finish, adding 12 points.

  • Chicago: He continued with another solid race, earning 11 points.

  • London: Didn't race

  • Toulouse: A strong second-place finish in Toulouse gave him 14 points and a glimmer of hope for the title.

What He Needs to Do: Hellwig must win in NEOM and hope that Wilde finishes fifth or lower and Bergere third or lower. While the odds are against him, Hellwig’s resilience and recent form give him an outside chance.

Vasco Vilaca: The Dark Horse

Vasco Vilaca’s 36 points put him in a similar position to Hellwig, with an outside shot at the title if a sequence of events goes his way. To win, Vilaca must secure first place in NEOM, with Wilde finishing fifth or lower and Bergere third or lower. Vilaca has demonstrated flashes of brilliance, particularly with a win in Toulouse , but will need a perfect race to overcome the points gap.

Recap of Key Performances:

  • Boston: Didn't race

  • Chicago: A strong performance saw him finish third, taking home 13 points.

  • London: A disappointing eighth place finish saw him take only eight points.

  • Toulouse: A superb performance. His first supertri win, gaining 15 points.

What He Needs to Do: Vilaca must win the race and hope for Wilde to finish fifth or lower, along with Bergere placing third or lower. It’s a tough ask, but Vilaca’s proven ability to win could make him a wild card in NEOM.
